Conference Update – PRINT CITY: Detroit 2014

January 10, 2014

PRINT CITY: Detroit 2014

The Mid America Print Council conference is rapidly taking shape!

The calls for panel/demo presentations and themed print portfolios are now open. Please find links to the calls on the Registration tab of the conference website.

We are happy to announce that the following three keynote speakers have been confirmed: artist Enrique Chagoya, artist Judy Pfaff, and Editor–‐in–‐Chief of Art in Print Susan Tallman.

Immediately following Chagoya’s address will be an opening reception for Goya/Chagoya in the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery on the campus of Wayne State University. The exhibition will feature a mini‐retrospective of Chagoya’s work, from etchings to lithographs to monotypes to codices to multiples. Included in the exhibition will be high–‐resolution printed images of the Francisco de Goya’s work that are in close proximity to Chagoya’s newer versions of the same theme.

To compliment the exhibition, the Detroit Institute of Art will open their print Study room to a limited number of conference attendees, allowing them to see the Goya originals (and more) up close! There will be a sign–‐up for this  event, which will include time slots for Thursday and Friday.

A meet-and‐greet bowling extravaganza at the historic Garden Bowl, an off‐campus tour to the famed Cranbrook Academy of Art, private viewings of original prints at the Detroit Institute of Arts, demonstrations at local letterpresses, and themed portfolios being displayed in local venues are only a few of the exciting events that have been planned!  The conference will be preceded by Detroit Design Festival and topped–‐off by Dlectricity, a nighttime, contemporary light festival with Installation work by national and international artists being projected on the historic Architecture of Midtown Detroit.
