2nd Rocky Mountain Printmaking Alliance Symposium. 17-19 October, 2013.
University of Utah, Salt Lake City., Symposium Title: “Public Gestures.”
Proposals due: June 1, 2013.

Printmaking has a long history of producing cultural artifacts that comment on societal issues and concerns. This project brings this to the forefront by organizing a symposium to exhibit and discuss contemporary works and techniques that explore the role of Printmedia in this dialogue, whether used directly as part of an event, as a means of commentary or satire, or as a way to engage others in its creation. Particular topics may include but are not limited to; Community Engagement; Political Discourse; the Environment; Animal Rights; Privacy; Healthcare; Communication Technologies; Globalisation; Education; Cultural Concerns; Historical Precedents; the influence of the individual in promoting action and also the range of obstructions that may restrict action. These topics may be local, national or international in scope.

As printmaking continues to reinvent itself and forge connections to other disciplines, it facilitates new possibilities. Proposals for panels, portfolios and events that cross traditional boundaries and mediums or incorporate new methodologies and techniques will be actively encouraged. Students are strongly encouraged to submit proposals.

This call is open to residents of AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, WA, WY and UT.

Please go to the website for submission details: http://www.art.utah.edu/2nd-rmpa-symposium/proposal-guidelines/

Large Format Printmaking Residency in Venice, Italy

The Venice Printmaking Studio specializes in large-format printmaking in relief/woodcut, monotype/print, silk screen, intaglio/etching and artist’s books. We encourage the exploration of traditional as well as experimental printmaking processes and ideas.

Located on the glass-blowing island of Murano, the Venice Printmaking Studio is tucked away from the more trafficked areas of the city and offers a 2000 sq. ft. workspace overlooking the lagoon. Venice, Italy is rich in artistic heritage and world-renowned landmarks – San Marco square, Doge’s Palace, Correr Museum, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and the notorious Venice Biennale.

Individual artists as well as small groups are welcome to apply for a residency year-round. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply for our Art Editions program – a 3 year collaboration with the Venice Printmaking Studio, which includes participation into the Large Format Contemporary Printmaking international exhibition.

Fall 2013 is an ideal time to visit the Venice as it coincides with the 55th Biennale di Venezia, an international exhibition of contemporary art.  Housing is provided for all residents and workshop participants.

For more information on any of the above, application process, rates and fees, contact:
