Call for Entries: “And” SGCI Postcard Exhibitions

September 24, 2015
Hello Printmakers!

I’m the SGC International Student Member at Large, and I am writing to you to invite you to participate in And, a student led art show. Along with last year’s SGC International student representative, Cynthia Tidler, and others, we are organizing an exhibition to take place in three venues this fall (the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the University of Iowa). The exhibition is an open-call for postcards incorporating printmaking and/or digital techniques. We’d love your involvement, and especially encourage student participants. The show’s theme, And, is a reflection on how printmaking and art can foster community across locations. We ask that participants send a postcard-sized print (4”x 6”) to each institution by October 15. If you wanted to involve your classes, you would also be welcome to send all the prints en masse to Knoxville for us to distribute. Individuals submitting information digitally can email the image to and.artshow@gmail.cominstead of mailing work. You’ll find attached a prospectus with the particular details.

We’re really excited to offer students a chance to be in three gallery exhibitions, and the works will also become part of the Print Archive at the University of Iowa. Please don’t hesitate to contact me ( with any questions. We look forward to seeing your work!

The Wood Engravers’ Network Triennial Exhibition

September 11, 2014

The Wood Engravers’ Network Triennial Exhibition is the second juried exhibition sponsored by the Wood Engravers’ Network (WEN). Joan Boudreau, Curator of the Graphic Arts Collection at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of American History, selected sixty engravings by fifty-one artists from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland and Belgium.

Wood engraving’s intimate scale, minute detail and fine textured grays are emblematic of this graphic medium. American artisans such as Timothy Cole, Lynd Ward, John DePol and Leonard Baskin exemplified the mastery and artistry of the medium in their times. WEN’s traveling exhibit connects the tradition of the medium with a contemporary context, continuing a celebration of the medium today.
