Now taking submissions for a special anniversary issue of The MAPC Journal: Vol. 20, no. 3 + 4 (Fall/Winter 2012)
Deadline: August 15, 2012

This issue commemorates the twentieth anniversary of MAPC. We’re looking for stories that celebrate MAPC’s past and future as well as general developments in the fields of book arts, printmaking and works on paper.

We are also accepting submissions for the front cover of the upcoming issue. Each MAPC member may submit one image with complete caption information. See below complete guidelines. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

The MAPC Journal features articles on the contemporary and historical context of printmaking, works on/of paper, drawing and book arts; essays examining the critical theory related to these media; and reviews of exhibitions and publications.

We are also accepting submissions for the front cover of the upcoming issue. Each MAPC member may submit one image with complete caption information. See Image Checklist for complete guidelines. Incomplete cover submissions will not be considered.
Length: 1500 – 2000 words for interviews and feature articles, 750 words for reviews of exhibitions and publications.
Image size: 300 dpi, 9 x 12 inches.
Include a brief biography (100 words) and color head shot.

MAPC Journal – current issue

The current issue of The MAPC Journal is available on the MAPC website (http://www.midamericaprintcouncil.org/) and The Mailer will soon reach your mailboxes.

 

Contributors include Karina Cutler-Lake, Dean Dass, Johanna Drucker, Jennifer Garner, Karen Kunc, Josh MacPhee and Erik Waterkotte. The issue also highlights the work of Amze Emmons, Deborah Friedman, Curtis Mann, Nathan Meltz, Yoonmi Nam, Jenny Schmid, and the late E.C. Cunningham.

In addition to the PDFs and print-your-own options that are available on the MAPC website (http://www.midamericaprintcouncil.org/), you can buy printed, bound copies of The Journal from Magcloud (http://www.magcloud.com/user/mapc). Downloads that are compatible with your iPad or mobile device are free from Magcloud. MAPC does not receive proceeds from the sale of The Journal; rather this initiative is another means of reaching our membership and generating dialogue about printmaking, works on/of paper, drawing and book arts.

Thank you to the MAPC Board and Advisory Committee for their work on the current issue. Committee members are Janet Ballweg, Charles Beneke, Sarah Smelser and Connie Wolfe. A special thank you goes to outgoing advisor Anne Cassidy.

Looking ahead, the fall/winter 2012 issue will build momentum for the upcoming 2012 conference and commemorate the twentieth anniversary of MAPC’s founding. Accepting submissions for “RE:Print,” Vol. 20, no. 1 + 2 (Spring/Summer 2012)
Deadline: December 15, 2011
The MAPC Journal features articles on the contemporary and historical context of printmaking, works on/of paper, drawing and book arts; essays examining the critical theory related to these media; and reviews of exhibitions and publications.
This issue will focus on initiatives in printmaking collectives, community organizations and institutions. How do new or renovated print shops affect their immediate community and the broader landscape of contemporary print? In what ways do individual artists, educators, and curators fuel these efforts? What entrepreneurial projects and innovative programs complement these changes, and which ones successfully keep printmaking at the forefront of our attention?

Starting with this issue, we are providing an additional way for you to obtain printed copies of The MAPC Journal: along with the online PDFs and print-your-own options that will continue to be available on the MAPC website, you can buy printed, bound copies of The Journal from Magcloud (http://www.magcloud.com/user/mapc). Downloads that are compatible with your iPad or mobile device are free with the purchase of a printed and bound edition. MAPC will not receive proceeds from the sale of The Journal; rather this initiative is another means of reaching our membership and bringing together the people who make printmaking so rich.

If you visit the MagCloud website, you’ll see two different prices listed: the newest issue is available for $3.60 + S/H; back issues are $4.80 + S/H. The lower price reflects a special promotion, and upcoming issues are likely to be in the $4.80 price range. Be assured that MAPC makes no profit from the distribution of The Journal on MagCloud.
