Working title: Assistant Professor – Printmaking


Degree and area of specialization: MFA or equivalent relevant experience is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:  A minimum of two years’ experience in professional practice, and demonstrated excellence and productivity in the field are preferred. A minimum of two years of university or college-level teaching experience beyond graduate teaching assistantships is also preferred. The candidate must demonstrate a proven record of professional involvement and creative accomplishment in the field of printmaking. The successful candidate should be a practicing artist with a distinguished exhibition record, teaching experience at the university or college level, and a strong commitment with enthusiasm towards the future of printmaking practice. A demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of intaglio techniques is essential along with expertise in one or more additional print media and Contemporary Print Theory and Practice. An understanding of digital imaging and experimental printmaking processes is desirable.

Principal duties: This Printmaking Position will involve teaching introductory and advanced classes in intaglio with a secondary concern in other print media and responsible for overseeing the intaglio studio. Candidates must have an excellent working knowledge of Intaglio and the contemporary critical issues that are relevant to the field of printmaking. Consideration will be given to candidates who introduce print
media practices that embrace green technology.

Candidates should also have a diverse background in Contemporary Print Media including: Traditional (Intaglio, Lithography, Screenprint, Relief), Digital Printmaking, Unique Prints, Multiples, and Contemporary Print Theory and Practice. This background will facilitate a new course offering involving a survey of contemporary print media that covers traditional and contemporary
printmaking theory and practice.

The position offers the opportunity to work within a well-established, well equipped, and top ranked printmaking program. The teaching load is three classes per semester and requires the teaching of Intaglio, a secondary print course, and service on MFA and MA committees. The desire and ability to interface with all areas of the Art Department is a significant facet of the position. The successful candidate must meet the teaching, research, and service expectations of the department and university.
